Advisory evolves: A new chapter of care and community

Since its refresh in September 2024, Advisory at Ursuline has quickly become an essential part of student life. It offers girls in every grade a dedicated space for reflection, support, and connection. Grounded in Ursuline's charism of care, the program enters the 2025–26 school year under the leadership of Mrs. Jennifer Lyons with thoughtful updates designed to nurture a stronger sense of belonging.

"Advisory gives us a chance to build the kind of relationships that make students feel seen and supported every day," Lyons said. "Advisors are mentors, but most importantly, we're trusted adults who can advocate for students."

What's New This Year

The Advisory program continues to grow in ways that strengthen relationships and support students. Key updates for 2025–26 include:

  • Set days and times: Advisory groups meet every Tuesday, with additional sessions on Thursdays during Koality Time, giving students consistent opportunities to connect.

  • Less structure, more relationships: By easing back on rigid goals and targets, Advisory opens space for authentic connections to grow, helping students build a supportive community.

  • Combined groups: Incoming classes now experience Advisory and Personal Development together, creating a more seamless and cohesive journey.

  • One-on-one connections: Students gain more opportunities for individual check-ins with their advisor, ensuring they feel supported and known by a trusted adult.

  • Grade-level focus: Advisors dedicate time to grade-level planning and activities to respond directly to students' needs.

Student Experience

Student feedback at the end of the 2024–25 school year was overwhelmingly positive. Nearly 95% said they feel their advisor cares about them and wants them to succeed, and 75% shared that they are comfortable seeking support from their advisor. For new students, Advisory was especially meaningful—three-quarters said it helped them feel at home and supported in their transition. For most students, the added benefit of remaining with the same Advisory group throughout middle and high school creates a sense of continuity and belonging that strengthens relationships year after year.

Community and Connection

Beyond individual check-ins, Advisory fosters joy, creativity, and belonging through shared events and activities. From spirited grade-level competitions to all-school celebrations, students have opportunities to unwind, connect, and celebrate milestones together. This spirit of belonging reflects Ursuline's long tradition of respect for all and its commitment to developing the whole person, ensuring that Advisory is not only supportive but also deeply aligned with Ursuline's Core Values. Lyons adds, "I'm excited to grow this program and strengthen those connections."

Looking Ahead

With Lyons guiding the program, Advisory is poised to deepen its role in the Ursuline experience. Advisors will continue to provide safe spaces and strong relationships where students are nurtured and supported. In keeping with Ursuline's mission, the program affirms a simple truth: students thrive when they are seen, known, and loved.
