Lights, camera, confidence

This story launches the first Student Spotlight of the 2025-26 school year, a new series celebrating Ursuline students who bring Serviam, creativity, and leadership to life in inspiring ways.

This past summer, Gabriella G ’26 took part in the prestigious Future Filmmakers Project, where she worked on a professional set, participated in workshops, and learned directly from industry mentors. The experience strengthened her passion for storytelling and built on the confidence and skills Ursuline has encouraged in her all along.

“It felt incredible to be behind a camera, crafting my ideas to come to life. The program gave me more confidence and a deeper love for being behind the camera.”
- Gabriella G ’26

Gabriella first explored film in Mr. Andrew Dapolite’s Film and Broadcasting class, where she discovered how to pair her love of storytelling with the visual impact of the camera. Filming assemblies and school events gave her more chances to experiment, helping her realize she could use film to inspire and honor her culture.

Her short film, Arroz con Gandules, follows a young girl’s journey to reconnect with her heritage through cooking, guided by a cherished family member. Gabriella said the project reflects her belief that traditions stay alive through action, community, and love.

At Ursuline, she has found steady encouragement to take risks and pursue her passions. “Ursuline has given me so many opportunities for filming. They always want to push you to your greatest potential, encouraging you to take risks with the support you need. With this, I have the confidence to pursue filmmaking beyond the classroom,” she said

Gabriella also carries with her the lessons she learned from problem-solving on set. “Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes the unexpected change leads to a better outcome,” she said. That mindset, paired with Ursuline's academic rigor and support, prepares her for future college programs and a career in the film industry.

She encourages younger Koalas to keep their focus. “Never lose sight of your dreams. Your dreams are worth fulfilling. Let the world be your inspiration and never be afraid to take new risks,” she said.

Her story already shows how passion, preparation, and courage can carry a project from the classroom to the screen—and from the heart into the world.
