Pure imagination: Juniors create a sweet tribute for Ring Day

Each fall, the spirit of Ursuline shines brightest through one of its most beloved traditions—Ring Day—a rite of passage that has united generations of students for decades. This year, the Class of 2027 brought that legacy to life through color, creativity, and collaboration, crafting a spectacular art installation inspired by the seniors’ Ring Day theme: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Working closely with grade-level advisors and art teachers, the juniors transformed Ursuline’s hallways into a whimsical, candy-colored world. Over the course of several weeks, students spent long afternoons designing, painting, and installing more than 400 individual pieces of artwork, each one reflecting their shared imagination and teamwork.

“This project is about more than art; it’s about tradition,” said Mrs. Deirdre Stone ’96, visual and media arts faculty member. “I remember working on my own Ring Day installation as a student, never realizing I’d one day be guiding the next generation through the same tradition.”

The installation, complete with giant lollipops, golden tickets, and bursts of color, transformed the school into a celebration of joy and creativity. More importantly, it honored the sisterhood and long-standing traditions that define the Ursuline experience.

“When we started working, it felt like just another art project,” one junior shared. “But as we watched everything come together, we realized we were creating something for our sisters. It’s something they’ll remember forever.”

Another added, “It’s crazy to think that next year, it will be our turn to step through the ring. Being part of this makes it all feel real.”

For the Class of 2027, the experience illustrated how Ursuline’s cherished traditions continue to grow and transform, infused each year with the creativity and heart of its students. As they celebrated the seniors’ milestone, they also glimpsed their own future, and the unbreakable bond that connects every Ursuline girl across generations.
