Safety with a smile: Ursuline's Security Team welcomes students back to school

As the 2025–26 school year gets underway, Ursuline students are greeted not only by teachers and classmates but also by the steady presence of the school's security team. William "Bill" Childs, Bruce Daniele, Michael Delaney, and the newest member, Rocco Ruscitto, are retired police detectives who bring decades of experience, calm assurance, and a shared commitment to keeping The Ursuline School community safe.

William (Bill) Childs P'03

Childs, who retired as a detective lieutenant after 35 years with the New Rochelle Police Department, was the first to join Ursuline's security team. He was asked in 2017 to help start the program—initially on a one-year basis—and has been here ever since.

His ties to The Ursuline School span generations, including his wife, sister-in-law, and daughter. "I like to say I'm the concierge of The Ursuline School," offers Childs. He is the first face everyone sees in the morning, and takes pride in making sure that the school day begins on a welcoming note.

Bruce Daniele

Daniele is also a retired detective from the New Rochelle Police Department, where he served with distinction, overseeing security for the New Rochelle Board of Education. Known for his sharp instincts and approachable style, he balances vigilance with warmth. On campus, he is a steady presence who makes students, families, and colleagues feel safe and supported.

Michael Delaney

Delaney, a retired NYPD detective and member of the department's elite SCUBA team, is recognized nationally for his role in the "Miracle on the Hudson" rescue in 2009, when he was among the first divers to reach the downed aircraft and helped save 150 passengers in the icy river. His quick action and calm courage that day made headlines across the country. Now, he brings that same focus and dedication to Ursuline. "Every day here is about the same mission—protecting people," says Delaney.

Rocco Ruscitto

Ruscitto joined Ursuline in the summer of 2025, serving in both security and transportation. A retired NYPD detective with 24 years of service, he holds a New York State armed guard license and has completed dignitary protection training. His law enforcement career included protecting presidents, ambassadors, and other high-profile figures. Ruscitto's depth of experience and versatility add another layer of strength and professionalism to Ursuline's security team.

Strength in Experience

Together, Childs, Daniele, Delaney, and Ruscitto provide more than security. They offer peace of mind and safety with a smile. As the 2025–26 school year begins, we are grateful to this team who keep us safe and help to make Ursuline feel like home.
