When mission meets moment

When mission meets moment

by Dr. Colleen Melnyk, president

We welcomed a visiting team from the Ursuline Education Foundation (UEF) to The Ursuline School on April 29–30, 2026. The team met with members of the Executive Committee of our Board of Trustees, Ursuline Sisters, and small groups of faculty, administrators, parents, alumnae, and students.

This visit is part of a broader conversation taking place across Ursuline schools, and one we are actively engaged in here at Ursuline. At its core, it focuses on the sponsorship of Ursuline schools as Catholic schools and on ensuring that Ursuline schools remain both Catholic and Ursuline in the years ahead.

The Ursuline Sisters have been thinking carefully about the future. As fewer Sisters serve in schools, they have taken thoughtful steps to ensure the mission they have carried for generations continues. The UEF is the structure they have put in place to support that work.

In simple terms, this comes down to who will ensure that Ursuline schools remain true to their Catholic and Ursuline identity over time.

The Ursuline Sisters have approached this with foresight. They are planning for the future of the schools they have founded, with a clear commitment to preserving the legacy they have built over generations. The UEF is part of that plan, providing a structure to support and sustain the mission over time.

What matters most is this: nothing about our mission or our students' experience is changing. What is changing is how that mission is formally supported and safeguarded for the future.

This is thoughtful, forward-looking work. It reflects a deep commitment on the part of the Ursuline Sisters to ensure that Ursuline education continues as intended.

We will continue to share updates as this work progresses. As always, thank you for your partnership in sustaining and strengthening the mission of The Ursuline School.
