May Crowning celebrated in new on-campus Prayer Garden
Shannon Dufresne

On May 7, 2026, Ursuline's sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-grade students gathered in the newly dedicated Class of 2026 Prayer Garden for the school's annual May Crowning. The celebration reflected a long-standing Catholic tradition honoring the Blessed Mother. The eldest eighth-grade student placed a wreath of flowers on the statue of Mary, symbolizing devotion, humility, and love.

The setting added new meaning to the tradition. Dedicated on April 29, 2026, the prayer garden is a gift from the Class of 2026 and was designed as a space for quiet reflection, prayer, and gathering. The project was led by Allison Villareal '26 as her Eagle Scout initiative, with support from classmates, families, and the broader Ursuline community.

Rooted in faith and sisterhood, the garden now serves as a place where students can pause within the rhythm of the school day. The May Crowning offered a first glimpse of how the space will shape moments of prayer and community for years to come.
