Annual Communion Breakfast celebrates the bond between mothers and daughters

A crisp and sunny fall Sunday lent a sense of warmth and joy to the 2023 Mother-Daughter Communion Breakfast held at the VIP Club in New Rochelle on October 15. The annual event, a traditional kick-off to Senior Ring Week, brings together all Ursuline girls and the very important women in their lives to celebrate the Eucharist together.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Colleen Melnyk, president, thanked all mothers and maternal figures, reminding the captive crowd of over 540 that all mothers have Mary, the Most Blessed Mother, as an example and role model. "Mothers like Mary are called to continually say 'yes' daily to the joys, challenges, and circumstances present in their lives and their children's lives," said Melnyk.

The beautiful mass, officiated by chaplain Msgr. Dennis P. Keane was made even more special with the participation of students across the grade levels as cantors, musicians, readers, altar servers, and eucharistic ministers. Later, Ms. Theresa Napoli thanked the Mothers’ Auxiliary for hosting the gathering and praised our talented student musicians and vocalists for helping to set a prayerful tone.

The event also gave attendees a first peek at the Senior Quilt, providing a beautiful altar backdrop. The quilt, a symbol of unity through the individuality of the Class of 2024, is stitched of 127 squares, making one unified work of art.
