Class of 2026 reflects wide-ranging college pathways

From Ivy League universities and nationally recognized research institutions to art and design schools, international programs, and collegiate athletics, the Class of 2026 is pursuing pathways that reflect its confidence, determination, and sense of purpose.

All 156 seniors committed to colleges and universities across the United States and internationally, with the class collectively selecting 84 different institutions. The destinations showcase the broad range of academic interests, talents, and personal aspirations developed during the students' time at Ursuline.

Members of the class will attend highly selective institutions, including Cornell University and Dartmouth College, while others will continue their studies internationally at universities in London, Paris, and Canada. Students are also committed to a wide range of public and private institutions nationwide, including the University of Notre Dame, Boston College, New York University, the University of Georgia, the University of Michigan, the University of Virginia, Binghamton University, and Fairfield University.

Catholic colleges and universities remained a strong choice for many seniors, with 51 students enrolling at 16 different Catholic institutions. Public universities also drew significant interest, with 52 students committing to 36 public institutions nationwide.

Several graduates will pursue studies at leading art and design schools, including the Rhode Island School of Design, Pratt Institute, the Savannah College of Art and Design, and the Fashion Institute of Technology. Seven members of the class also committed to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level.

The Class of 2026 earned more than $36 million in academic merit scholarship offers, reflecting the strength of the students' preparation and the thoughtful approach many families brought to the college process.

According to Mrs. Kathy Reilly, chair of Academic and College Counseling, the outcomes reflect how intentionally students approached their college searches.

"We are incredibly proud of the diversity of colleges the Class of 2026 applied to, and we believe their outcomes truly reflect what each student was looking for in a college experience."

During commencement exercises held on Thursday, May 21, at The Ursuline School, faculty, families, and graduates gathered to celebrate the Class of 2026. The graduating class was led by valedictorian Lucy Equinda '26 and salutatorian Sophia Patz '26, whose commencement addresses reflected the thoughtfulness and sense of purpose that defined the Class of 2026.

Dr. Colleen Melnyk, president of The Ursuline School, said the graduates leave Ursuline with both confidence and purpose.

"You became young women who know how to think critically and lead thoughtfully," Dr. Melnyk said. "Young women who understand the importance of compassion, integrity, and a life grounded in purpose and service."

While the college list itself is impressive, the accomplishments of the Class of 2026 extend far beyond admissions decisions. During their time at Ursuline, these graduates distinguished themselves through scholarship, leadership, service, artistic expression, and a willingness to embrace new opportunities.

As Dr. Melnyk reminded graduates, "As you leave Ursuline today, know that you carry far more than a diploma. You carry the values of this community. You carry the spirit of Serviam." Quoting St. Angela Merici, she added, "With the help of God, you will do much good."

Strengthened by their Ursuline experience and guided by the spirit of Serviam, the members of the Class of 2026 now move forward prepared to do just that.
