Generous Grants Awarded by The Louise Este Bruce Foundation

The Ursuline School is thrilled to share that we received $49,270 in grant funding from The Louise Este Bruce Foundation. One grant in the amount of $20,000 will continue funding the existing Louise Este Bruce Scholarship. The second grant totals $29,270 and will provide state-of-the-art equipment for the science laboratories and support faculty in our Science Research program.

Louise Este Bruce was a philanthropist from a family with a notable legacy in public service and diplomacy. Throughout her life, Ms. Bruce donated to various charities but felt a particular obligation toward private educational institutions. The Louise Este Bruce Foundation, created upon her death in 2013, focuses its efforts on institutions that share Ms. Bruce's passion for education. The Ursuline School is honored that the Foundation board has chosen to award us this grant funding, which builds on the Foundation's previous support for our STEAM program and global education.

The Louise Este Bruce Scholarship is an endowed need-based Scholarship to recognize an intellectually curious incoming ninth grader whose entrance test scores and grades are in the top tenth percentile. This scholarship enables an exceptional student to attend Ursuline and, in the words of the inaugural recipient, "pursue a wide variety of interests, grow as a person, and leave well prepared to improve the world." This scholarship offers a deserving family critical financial support in the current economic environment while acknowledging a dedicated student with a special honor.

The second grant will enable Ursuline to update equipment used by all Biology classes as well as the Science Research program and support the dedicated Science Research faculty, thus impacting more than 200 students each year. Ursuline's Biological Sciences and Science Research Program have witnessed a surge in student interest thanks to several new initiatives; one example is conducting field research and providing valuable scientific data to the local community. With the Foundation's support, more Ursuline students will be able to conduct original research under the guidance of top scientists, leading to more internships at university laboratories and enhanced college prospects.

The Ursuline School is grateful to The Louise Este Bruce Foundation for its continued investment in our mission to educate, inspire, and empower young women to be persons of faith and integrity, lifelong learners, and wise, responsible, global leaders committed to the Ursuline tradition of Serviam – I will serve.
