Lauren Tuffy '28 honored as Young Kerry Person of the Year

For Lauren Tuffy '28, music is more than a talent. It is a way to serve, to connect, and to honor the culture and traditions that have shaped her.

That spirit of faith, culture, and generosity was recognized when Lauren was named Young Kerry Person of the Year by the County Kerry Association, a Westchester-based organization dedicated to preserving Irish heritage and community ties among families with roots in County Kerry, Ireland.

Lauren was honored at the association's annual event on March 20 at Mulino's Lake Isle, where she was celebrated not only for her musical ability but for the way she shares it with others. She received her award alongside Eileen Murphy, president of the County Kerry Association. During the evening, David Tubiolo, a member of the Westchester County Board of Legislators, presented Lauren with a proclamation along with fellow honoree Elizabeth Stack.

A member of St. John the Baptist Church in Yonkers, Lauren regularly sings at Mass for the Kerry Association and plays both the tin whistle and guitar. Her willingness to offer her time and talent has made her a familiar and meaningful presence within the community.

"It means so much to be recognized by a community that's such an important part of my identity, and I'm really grateful for all the support and opportunities that have helped me get here."

"I'm incredibly honored," Lauren said. "It means so much to be recognized by a community that's such an important part of my identity, and I'm really grateful for all the support and opportunities that have helped me get here."

Her selection speaks to something deeper than achievement alone. It points to a young woman who values connection, honors her roots, and uses her gifts to serve others.

At Ursuline, students are encouraged to use their talents with purpose and to stay connected to the values that shape them. Lauren does both with authenticity, bringing together her love of music, her cultural roots, and a genuine desire to give back.

In honoring Lauren, the County Kerry Association celebrates not only a gifted musician but a young woman carrying her heritage forward with purpose. Audiences can also see her on stage this week in a lead role in the spring musical, Into the Woods Jr., running Thursday, March 26, through Saturday, March 28. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, faculty, and staff.
