Middle School Choir captures Gold Award at NYSSMA Majors Festival

Ursuline's Middle School Choir earned a Gold Award at the NYSSMA Majors Festival on May 20, 2026, at Fox Lane High School. The recognition reflects outstanding technical and artistic skill across all evaluated categories.

Conducted by Mr. Sylvain Falipou-Karkari and accompanied on piano by Mrs. Barbara Laman, the choir performed a challenging repertoire in French, Greek, and English. Selections included “D'où viens-tu, bergère” by Thomas Bell, “Samiotissa” by Laura Kakis-Serper and Arkadi Serper, and “Joy! Joy!” by Jacob Narverud.

“I am incredibly proud of our students for the dedication, focus, and musicianship they brought to this performance,” said Falipou-Karkari. “They represented Ursuline with confidence and heart.”

The accomplishment speaks to the students' preparation and perseverance, as well as the continued excellence of Ursuline's music program.
