Model UN team takes on global issues at national conference

Twelve members of Ursuline's Model United Nations (UN)  team traveled to Boston Feb. 6–8 to compete at BosMUN XXV, one of the nation's most prestigious Model UN conferences. The event brings together nearly 3,000 students from 150 schools, including international participants.

During the intensive, multi-day conference, students spent the weekend in committee sessions debating complex global issues, including INTERPOL art theft investigations, historical conflicts, and crisis-based simulations. For several delegates, BosMUN marked their first overnight, multi-day Model UN experience.

"Our students rose to the challenge of a demanding conference," said Model UN moderator Mrs. Stephanie Doherty. "They came prepared, engaged thoughtfully in debate, and supported one another throughout the weekend.”

Opening ceremonies featured keynote speakers Dr. Youssef Chahed, former prime minister of Tunisia, and Marley Rave of BosMUN's charity partner, No Kid Hungry. Committee sessions extended late into the evening, including a "Midnight Crisis" that challenged students to respond to rapidly evolving scenarios.

The conference marked a first overnight experience for several delegates and a final overnight conference for the program's seniors. The team also celebrated individual recognition, with Justine Dolan '26 earning an Honorable Mention in the Philosopher's Round Table and MaryClaire Sutterlin '26 receiving an Honorable Mention in the Food and Agriculture Organization.
