Sister schools lacrosse tournament puts shared values in motion

The Ursuline School welcomed fellow Ursuline schools from across the country for a four-day Sister Schools Lacrosse Tournament, where competition on the field and connection off it shaped the experience. Held April 16–19, the weekend brought together student-athletes, coaches, and administrators for more than a tournament—it offered a chance to experience Ursuline sisterhood in action.

From the moment teams arrived, Ursuline's varsity lacrosse players welcomed their guests, giving tours, answering questions, and showing them around campus. Conversations came easily, and it didn't take long for groups to mix and friendships to begin.

"You could feel the sisterhood in every interaction, whether it was players supporting one another during games or students connecting off the field."

For Athletic Director Dawn Cerrone, CAA, in her first year at The Ursuline School, that spirit stood out throughout the weekend. "You could feel the sisterhood in every interaction, whether it was players supporting one another during games or students connecting off the field," she said. "It’s what makes Ursuline so special, and you could see that all weekend."

Friday quickly shifted into one of Ursuline's most recognizable traditions: Field Day. Organized by the Student Council, which is moderated by Mrs. Alyssa Tenore and Ms. Brianne O'Hare, the annual event brings together students in grades 6–12 for a full day of spirited competition. The entire school divides into Blue and Gold teams, filling the campus with energy as students compete in relays, games, and crowd favorites.Visiting student-athletes joined alongside their Ursuline hosts, stepping into the day as participants rather than spectators. Whether racing through relays or cheering from the sidelines, they experienced the rhythm of a school tradition that brings the community together.

The day built toward a final seniors game, a highlight that drew attention from across the field, as younger students gathered to watch and cheer.

Tournament play began that afternoon, with matchups featuring Ursuline schools from Dedham, St. Louis, Wilmington, and New Rochelle. "It was competitive, but everyone cheered each other on," said a Dedham student, capturing the tone of the games.

Saturday gave visiting teams a chance to experience New York City together, an anticipated highlight of the weekend. Under bright skies, students walked the High Line and took in views of the city from Hudson Yards. The afternoon offered time to explore, take photos, and enjoy being together. The day concluded back on campus with Mass, followed by dinner.

Throughout the weekend, Ursuline families played an important role in welcoming visiting teams. Parents of Ursuline lacrosse players provided hospitality, helping create a welcoming environment where guests felt at home from arrival through departure.

Lacrosse brought the group together, but by the end of the weekend, it was the connections that stayed with them. Students returned home with new friendships and a clearer sense of what it means to be part of the Ursuline community.
