Class of 2025 leaves a legacy of service before graduation

Before receiving their diplomas on Thursday, May 22, the Ursuline School Class of 2025 united in a powerful final act of service. In the days leading up to graduation, these young women came together to give back to the community that helped shape them, choosing to end their Ursuline journey with purpose and heart.

This initiative was not part of a requirement. Instead, it was a heartfelt expression of leadership, gratitude, and a deep commitment to Ursuline’s mission and guiding motto, Serviam—Latin for “I will serve.”

With guidance from Service Coordinator Ms. Jennifer Schassler, seniors volunteered at a variety of locations throughout Westchester County, including HOPE Community Services in New Rochelle, Sarah Neuman – The Jewish Home in Mamaroneck, Wartburg Senior Living Center in Mount Vernon, Elizabeth Seton Children’s Hospital in Yonkers, Monarch Coopers Corner Senior Living Center in New Rochelle, Kol Ami Preschool in White Plains,, and Sheldrake Environmental Center in Larchmont. Their outreach included gardening and arts and crafts with elderly residents, environmental clean-up, and meaningful engagement with children, an experience full of energy, laughter, and heartfelt connection.

The event, known as 'Make a Difference Day,' is a longstanding tradition at Ursuline that typically takes place in the fall. This year, it was moved to graduation week, giving it even greater significance as the seniors prepared to leave. More than just a day of service, it marked the final time the Class of 2025 would serve together as students.

Throughout their time at Ursuline, these graduates discovered new passions and a profound sense of purpose, shaped by faith, learning, and a culture of compassion. 'Make a Difference Day' was the closing chapter of their collective commitment to service as Ursuline students, and a powerful transition into their lifelong calling to serve as alumnae.

“I was overjoyed with the outpouring of support for the local community from our seniors,” said Ms. Schassler. “They are wonderful role models for our younger students and truly embody the values we hold dear at Ursuline.”

Now, as proud graduates, these young women follow in the footsteps of Saint Angela Merici, the foundress of the Ursuline Sisters. Empowered by her vision and their Ursuline education, they are ready to lead lives of service, faith, and integrity.

The Class of 2025 has graduated, but their spirit of Serviam continues to shine, transforming lives, strengthening communities, and inspiring those who wish to follow in their footsteps.
