Ursuline earns national CPR training grant

Ursuline's Red Cross/Heart Club has earned a national grant from the American Heart Association to expand CPR training and lifesaving resources on campus, placing the school among just 32 high schools and colleges selected nationwide.

The award, part of the Association's Nation of Lifesavers initiative, supports schools working to increase access to CPR education and improve emergency response. Ursuline joins a cohort that includes leading universities such as Cornell, Michigan, and Villanova, rare company for a high school and a reflection of the strength of its student-led efforts.

Ursuline's Red Cross/Heart Club is an educational and service-based organization that promotes heart health across the school community. Members study cardiovascular health, lead awareness efforts, and earn service hours through community projects and fundraising that support wellness and preparedness.

The club launched this year under the leadership of Anusha Vaish '28 and moderator Ms. Marie Barry '09, social studies teacher. With the grant's support, students will expand on-campus CPR training opportunities.

The American Heart Association reports that 9 out of 10 people who experience cardiac arrest outside a hospital do not survive, often because they do not receive immediate CPR. Through this initiative, Ursuline students take an active role in changing that outcome.
