Performing Arts

At Ursuline, talented and passionate faculty musicians help students grow as performers and leaders. Through ensembles, concerts, and creative collaboration, girls strengthen their skills and share their love of music with the school community. Students who maintain a B average and participate in an instrumental group for at least one year may also be invited to join the Tri-M Music Honor Society — celebrating excellence, service, and the joy of making music together.

Goal:

To create a positive experience for every type of learner and challenge students at all grade-levels.

Curriculum Overview:

Middle School students must take music class. Grade 6 students may choose a string, woodwind, or brass instrument, or opt for music class. Students in grades 7 and 8 are encouraged to continue the instrumental curriculum from the prior year. Eighth graders may opt into music class.

Grade 9 students may choose to continue with their instrument or take the Introduction to the Performing Arts class. Incoming students who have prior experience may opt to take an instrumental class.

Performances:

Winter and Spring Concerts are presented each year. In addition, there are other performing opportunities throughout the school year. Several groups perform at recitals, competitions, special school events, and do community outreach. Junior and Middle School choirs participate in the NYSSMA Majors festival each Spring.
