Science

Ursuline’s Science program inspires curiosity and real-world discovery. Ninth graders explore sustainability through hands-on work in the school garden and hydroponics tower. Beyond core classes, students can choose from AP and elective courses or join the three-year Science Research program, which offers independent studies and internships that culminate in presentations at local, regional, and national competitions.

Goal:

To help students develop a lifelong interest in science and to become scientifically literate citizens capable of analyzing real-world problems and proposing solutions. Through a variety of learning experiences, students learn to:

  • Engage in scientific inquiry to observe scientific principles through careful observation;

  • Weigh facts and arrive at valid conclusions; and

  • Recognize that science is not merely about facts; it is an exciting and dynamic process.

Curriculum Overview:

Middle school students take a three-year sequence of physical, life, and earth sciences.

High school students must take three years of laboratory science. A fourth year of science is encouraged. In addition to the required sciences, beginning in 10th grade, students may enter a three-year Science Research program that allows students, with the help of a mentor, to conduct authentic scientific research on a topic of their choosing.
