Global Education & Serviam

The Ursuline Global Education curriculum includes Art History, Global History, World Literature, World Music, World Religions and a Global Concerns Seminar elective. Courses in Spanish, Italian, Latin, Greek and Mandarin encompass language, literature, history and culture.

Many of Ursuline's extra-curricular clubs have a Global Education & Serviam focus such as Afrikana, Black Essence, French Club, Gaelic Society, Greek Club, Giving Tree Global, Italian Society, Mandarin Chinese Club, Model UN, Junior Model UN, Spanish Club, UNICEF, and Women for Women International.

Our annual Global Education & Serviam Symposium addresses world issues and features distinguished keynote speakers and panelists who share global leadership at world-class companies such as IBM and Pfizer, and service experiences at non-profit organizations such as Concern Worldwide, Seeds of Africa and the United Nations.  Ursuline students research global challenges, lead discussions, collaborate in break-out sessions and raise awareness for important global causes. Prior world issues of focus include: Global Hunger, Fast Fashion, and Global Climate Impact.

Our sixth annual Global Symposium in March 2019 explored "Global Displacement."    Author, screenwriter and peace activist Luong Ung captivated students with her wisdom and message of kindness as a child refugee and survivor of the Cambodian genocide. Ms. Ung told Ursuline students, "Peace is an action, not a wish – and together we have exponential power to make lasting change.”  Ms. Ung’s memoir, First They Killed My Father, became a 2017 Netflix Original Movie that she co-screen wrote with producer-director Angelina Jolie.

International travel opportunities for Ursuline students have included Language Immersion trips to Italy and Spain, an  annual  European trip, Classic studies trips to Greece and Italy, and Choir Performance trips to Austria, and Rome and the Vatican.

We have also offered unique , international student exchanges with our Ursuline “sister” schools in Australia, France, Peru and South Africa. Our global travel program often includes opportunities to positively impact the lives of others and reinforce Ursuline's commitment to Serviam ("I will serve.")  Our 2015 trip to Guyana and the 2017 exchange program in Peru are examples of our commitment to service beyond our borders.
