Global Symposiums

School community rallies around a global concern

Each year, The Ursuline School community examines a global issue of shared concern to create awareness and foster global citizenship. The issue takes center stage during the annual Global Symposium which features a notable keynote speaker who presents the issue and describes its relevance to students. The topic is further explored in the classroom with a multidisciplinary teaching approach throughout the school year.

Faculty integrate the global issue through lessons, hands-on experiences, collaborative projects, student presentations, documentary films, service projects, and extracurricular activities. Guest speakers such as organizational leaders, authors, educators and humanitarians are instrumental to inspiring the school community to respond with compassion through actions and service both globally and locally. It is one more way the Ursuline community lives out its motto of Serviam - "I will serve."

My daughter talks a lot more about global issues and international relations at the dinner table. The symposiums have really broadened her worldview. She is thinking on a much different level than before. "
