St. Angela statue

The religious and spiritual life of The Ursuline School is rooted in:

the Catholic tradition,

the Gospel,

the inspiration of St. Angela Merici, the foundress of the Ursuline sisters, and

the Ursuline tradition of "Serviam" - I will serve.

This is a welcoming place for students of all faith traditions. The nourishment of the spiritual life of our students takes place in a variety of ways.

PRAYER

Stations of the Cross, Spring 2022
  • Each morning a student proclaims a prayer over the loudspeaker which ends with a call and response. St. Angela: watch over us all our days.  St. Ursula:  protect our future.
  • In the Chapel of St. Angela, we offer weekly prayer services. Students and faculty lead Lauds and praying the rosary.
  • Special seasonal prayer services are Lessons & Carols during Advent and Stations of the Cross in Lent (pictured above).
  • On September 21, we mark the U.N. International Day of Peace with an ecumenical prayer service.

MASS

Liturgical dancers spring 2022
  • We celebrate monthly Mass as a school community.
  • Msgr. Dennis Keane is our Chaplain and celebrant/homilist at our Masses.
  • Students, faculty, and staff participate as altar servers, readers, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, liturgical dancers (pictured above), and in Liturgical Music Ministry through singing and instrumental accompaniment.
  • Liturgy of the Word with Holy Communion or Mass is held weekly in the Chapel of St. Angela.

SACRAMENTS

Advent Reconciliation 2021
  • The Sacrament of Reconciliation is celebrated twice a year, during Advent and Lent. All students and faculty are encouraged to participate during their scheduled Religious Studies class time.
  • Students arrange for Confirmation through their local parish. Presently, we do not offer sacramental preparation.

RETREATS

Senior Retreat spring 2022
  • Students in grades 6 - 11 participate in one-day retreats off campus.
  • Seniors participate in an overnight retreat.
  • The retreat program is designed to invite students to examine their personal and active relationship with God. Retreats are also days of renewal.
  • These experiences are planned and run by our Campus Ministry team. Retreats may include outside presenters. For grades 6-10,  student Peer Ministers lead small group discussions.

PEER MINISTRY

Junior retreat Spring 2022
  • Peer ministry is a year-long experience available to Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors who apply and interview each year.
  • Peer Ministers lead the retreats for students in grades 6-10 (pictured above).
  • Peer ministers are trained in listening, group leadership, and faith values. They are called upon to present witness talks, group activities, and to be models of faith.

CEREMONIES

Bible ceremony 2022 group
  • In the fall, 6th graders are presented with their own Bible in a special blessing ceremony (pictured above).
  • In the spring, grades 6 - 8 participate in our annual May Crowning.  An 8th grade student places the crown of flowers on the statue of Mary.  Students lead a beautiful litany to the Blessed Virgin Mary and pray a decade of the rosary.

Chapel of St. Angela

Since 1968, the Chapel of St. Angela,  built on the school grounds,  has offered all students, faculty, and staff a space for prayer, reflection, and writing in the Book of Prayer Intentions.
