Incorporates activities that will introduce students to a lifetime of sports and exposure to the key elements of daily fitness. Students will participate actively and demonstrate responsible personal behavior while engaging in physical activities, handle equipment safely and responsibly, demonstrates competence while leading and participating in group activities, accepts teammates regardless of ability and treats opponents with respect and courtesy, applies the correct techniques for locomotor, non locomotor, and manipulative skills.
Activities will include: Team Building, Badminton, Football, Soccer, Volleyball, Pickleball, Floor Hockey, Matball, Softball, Handball, Basketball, Fitness (basic core training, and cardio).
This course concentrates on guiding students in the process of becoming physically active for a lifetime. Activities will introduce students to skills that can be incorporated into their lifetime fitness plan. There are three options students are given for high school physical education class: physical education, fitness and dance.
Physical Education Requirement
Grades 6 - 9
Full year required. One period per week. Choice of Physical Education or Ballet. NO EXEMPTIONS.
Grades 10 -12
ONE semester required over the course of 3 years. Choice of Physical Education, Fitness or Ballet. NO EXEMPTIONS
Students are asked to engage enthusiastically in a variety of individual and team sport activities, demonstrate competency in a variety of activities, apply proper techniques, exhibit a physically active lifestyle, achieve and maintain a physically active level of physical fitness. Students will engage enthusiastically in the fitness room utilizing 7 different cardio machines, four different weight training machines, and free weights. The course concentrates on specific cardiovascular and strength training techniques. Activities will introduce students to fitness skills that can be incorporated into their life fitness plan.
Available to grades 9-12; Semester
This dance course provides the primary ballet exercises at the barre and in the center of the floor, increasing in difficulty as the course progresses. The correct French terminology will be taught. Ballet shoes are required. Participation in concerts is required.
