April is National Poetry Month and our Poetry Club celebrated by hosting "Poetry Out Loud!" Students and teachers recited poems by contemporary poets, Poets Laureate of years past, songwriters, and their own original works.
The event began with Irish songs played on the harp. Then the audience enjoyed hearing verses by familiar poets such as Maya Angelou, Emily Dickenson, and Robert Frost, and equally enthralled by contemporary poets including Naomi Shihab Nye and Camille T. Dungy.
The poems were recited in English, Spanish and Italian. Some poems were humorous or playful, and others sad or thought provoking. The poetry forms ranged from narrative to free style to sonnet.
Thanks to our Poetry Club for organizing an exceptional afternoon! Members of our Poetry Club are pictured here.
