Our Advanced Placement Environmental Science class has been studying the Long Island Sound estuary and the unique plant and animal communities that have adapted to the Sound. Students have been focusing on water quality and the issues surrounding marine life and water quality. On October 11, 2019, students reinforced their classroom study with a day at The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk.
Students conducted water quality research to gather data to determine the health of the Sound. Then they discussed what can be done to prevent pollution.
Students also toured the aquarium and enjoyed hands-on experiences with stingrays, nurse sharks, crabs, sea stars, moon jellies and other coastal creatures.
