Statement of Solidarity and Commitment, June 2, 2020
In these days of anguish and outrage, The Ursuline School stands with those seeking justice. We offer deep condolences to the family of George Floyd, and Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery and to the too numerous families of other black or brown men and women who have been senselessly killed.
We affirm our commitment to fighting racial injustice. We consider it imperative, woven into our mission, to work for a more equitable society as we educate young women to learn, to lead and to serve.
We recognize that we each have a role to play in bringing about peace through justice. We understand that systemic racism reaches its tentacles into educational institutions as well and must be rooted out with determination. Within our school community, we are continuing to educate ourselves on the facets of racism, to dialogue, to plan events that can bring people together, and of course to pray.
We humbly offer this statement and commit to listening intently to the voices of those who have been marginalized in the hope that we can together build a more just world.
